EAGLE, Idaho (KBOI) — After the rain melted the snow, it felt like 50 degrees outside and the last thing on my mind was playing in the snow. But Eagle Island’s Gateway Park has a winter playground for everyone no matter what the weather. As everyone else was weather appropriate in jeans and sweatshirts, I felt pretty professional in my snow gear - boots, pants, jacket, goggles, gloves, and snowboard! I was ready to hit the slopes! Gateway Parks doesn’t have your traditional ski slopes.
We started off on the Magic Carpet, aka ‘the conveyor belt’ that gets you up the mountain so you don’t have to walk. First up was the tubing hill. There are an impressive three different lanes to choose from and the staff was eager to ask what style of tubing you were looking to accomplish. Regular style, lock arms or legs with a partner, get a running start, lay on your stomach and be pushed, or (my favorite) get spun around at the start.
Next up was the snowboard/ski park with multiple different features like jumps, rails, and boxes. Without much prior experience, I felt comfortable giving the features my best shot. I can proudly say I am now halfway to professional on the boxes, and I’m ready for Red Bull to come scout me out to join their freestyle team. You can check out my sweet skills in the video! *wink wink*
Overall, Gateway park was a fun way to spend Sunday afternoon. There were plenty of families as well as individuals honing their form and getting ready for the next big snow storm.
