Michael “Mike” Beatty Obituary, Death – Michael A. “Mike” Beatty, 68, a lifelong resident of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 1, 2024. Born on October 12, 1955, to Robert James and Elizabeth Clare Beatty, Mike graduated from Sandusky High School in 1975. His professional journey spanned over three decades at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), culminating in his retirement in 2015. Post-retirement, Mike immersed himself in the art world alongside his brother, Pat, earning the moniker “Village Painter.”
Mike’s legacy extends beyond his professional pursuits. His devotion to family and friends characterized him, and his love for outdoor activities, particularly hunting (especially for ducks), fly-fishing, and family camping, will be fondly remembered. Additionally, Mike had a passion for collecting Lionel trains, showcasing his diverse interests.
Survived by his wife of 33 years, Amy C. Beatty, whom he married on September 15, 1990, Mike leaves behind a son, Spencer (Colleen) Beatty of Akron, as well as nephews Ryan (Nicole Wigington) Beatty of Ironwood, MI, and Chase (Ashley) Beatty of Rochester, N.Y. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Patrick L. “Pat” Beatty.
Friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 10, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, officiated by Fr. Zach Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to assist with funeral costs, honoring Mike’s wishes. This gesture reflects the community’s collective effort to support the family during this difficult time, as they come together to celebrate the life of a man who touched the hearts of many.
